Insgesamt fünf der zehn eingeladenen Acts für das bereits ausverkaufte SWR3 New Pop Festival, das eigentlich am nächsten Wochenende hätte stattfinden sollen, sagten ihre Teilnahme ab. Daraus zogen die Veranstalter die logische Konsequenz und sagten das Ganze ab.

So brachen zum Beispiel Sugar Ray am Wochenende ihre Europatour ab, um sich um Freunde und ihre Familien in New York zu kümmern. Wheatus hingegen wollen ihre Heimatstadt hinsichtlich der gegenwärtigen Situation nicht verlassen. Josh Joplin brach seine Australientour ab, da seine Wohnung in Manhatten durch den Anschlag völlig verwüstet wurde.

SWR3-Programmchef Gerold Hug ist aber überzeugt, dass die Ticketinhaber Verständnis für diese Entscheidung haben und betont, dass die Tickets problemlos gegen bares umgetauscht werden können. Infos hierzu gibt es unter (07221) 300 300.

System Of A Down stehen zur Zeit auf Platz 1 der amerikanischen Billboard Charts. Insgesamt rund 220.000 Toxicity-Alben gingen bislang über die Ladentheken. +++ Einen neuen Track namens 11am vom kommenden Album stellten Incubus auf ihre Website. Hören könnt ihr ihn hier +++ Phallucy, Nebenprojekt von Deftones Drummer Abe Cunningham, stellten ebenso einige mp3-Stücke auf ihre Homepage. +++ Pulp-Sänger Jarvis Cocker hat ein Angebot von Coca Cola strikt abgelehnt: Die Brause-Firma wollte die neue Single Sunrise für einen Werbespot verwenden. Die Offerte anzunehmen sei das schlimmste, was man hätte tun können, so Cocker. +++ Die Ramones sind ebenso wie die Sex Pistols für die Aufnahme in die Rock`n`Roll Hall Of Fame nominiert. Letztendlich liegt die Entscheidung bei den rund 1.000 Juroren aus der Musikindustrie. +++ Nachdem vor ein paar Tagen Keyboarder Leslie Harding die Murder City Devils verlassen hat, lösten die verbliebenen Musiker die Band nun komplett auf. Bis auf den Bassisten Derek Fudesco wollen die übrigen allerdings unter einem anderem Namen weitermachen. +++ Stainds Aaron Lewis wird prominenter Gast auf der nächsten Sevendust-Platte sein. Die Kooperation entstand übrigens beim gemeinsamen Golfen…

Es gab seitens der Bandmitglieder nur eine Anforderung an die neue Garbage-Platte: Sie sollte einfach und organisch werden. Daran bastelten die Briten ein Jahr lang, das Resultat sind emotionale Songs, die die wahre Shirley Manson zeigen, wie “Nevermind”-Produzent Butch Vig und seine Bandkollegen erklären. “Shirley hat für dieses Album sehr klare und persönliche Texte geschrieben, so eindeutig, wie nie zuvor. Es geht um Emotionen, deswegen wäre es auch völlig unpassend, sie in einen hochtechnischen Kontext zu stellen. Das würde ihnen nur die Ehrlichkeit und Natürlichkeit nehmen.” Die Rolle der ansonsten eher zurückhaltenden Front-Frau Shirley Manson ist in der Tat ungewöhnlich, sie sprang erfolgreich über ihren Schatten. “Ich hatte immer den Eindruck, die Band repräsentieren zu müssen und nicht meine eigene Gefühlswelt. Diesen Gedanken habe ich inzwischen über Bord geworfen und ganz egozentrische Texte geschrieben.”

Korns Album Nummer fünf steht kurz vor der Fertigstellung. Lediglich die Vocals müssen noch eingespielt werden, weshalb sich Jonathan Davis momentan in einem Studio in Vancouver aufhält. In einem Interview mit `mtv.com` sagte Davis: “Ich weiß, wir sagen das immer über unsere Alben, aber das ist das heftigste und beste Ding, das wir jemals gemacht haben. Ich bin wirklich gespannt auf das Endprodukt.” Für die Aufnahmen des noch unbetitelten Albums kehrte auch Drummer David Silveria zur Band zurück. +++ Jimmy Eat World haben den UK-Release von “Bleed American” verschoben. Die Single sollte dort Anfang Oktober, das Album Ende Oktober auf den Markt kommen. Aufgrund der Terror-Anschläge in den USA, hat sich die Band dazu entschieden, das Album umzubenennen. Die Single wird jetzt unter dem Titel “Bleed” Anfang November auf den Markt kommen. +++ Die Manic Street Preachers planen, in naher Zukunft ein Best Of-Album zu veröffentlichen. Wann die Platte (unter dem Arbeitstitel “Forever Delayed”) in die Läden kommen wird, steht noch nicht fest. +++ Nachdem Pantera ihre Teilnahme an der “Tattoo The Planet”-Tour aufgrund der Ereignisse in den USA abgesagt haben, haben Slayer ihr Mitwirken ein weiteres Mal bestätigt. “Ich verstehe Panteras Entscheidung, aber ich denke, wir würden unsere Fans in Europa sehr enttäuschen, wenn wir die Tour canceln würden”, sagte Tom Araya in einem Interview. “Wir weigern uns als Band einfach, diesen Terroristen nachzugeben. Wir werden ihnen nicht erlauben, weiter störend in unser Leben einzugreifen.” +++ Im Gegensatz dazu haben Static-X ihre Teilnahme an der Tour abgesagt. Auf der offiziellen Homepage heißt es: “Wir haben uns alle darauf gefreut, unsere Freunde und Fans in Europa zu treffen, und mit Pantera, Slayer und Cradle of Filth zu touren. Aber wir haben uns jetzt endgültig dazu entschieden, die Tour abzusagen.” Vom deutschen Veranstalter der Tour wurde diese Nachricht bisher noch nicht bestätigt. +++ All diejenigen, die kein Ticket mehr für die derzeit laufende und restlos ausverkaufte Depeche Mode-Tour bekommen haben, könnten noch ein Ticket für das einzige Zusatzkonzert abgreifen. Am 05. November wird die Band in Mannheim/Maimarkt spielen. Der Kartenvorverkauf beginnt heute, Tickets gibt`s beim `SWR 3` unter der Nummer 07221-300 300. +++ Howe Gelb hat seine für September geplante Tour abgesagt. Vermutlich wird er die ausgefallenen Termine erst im Januar/Februar nächsten Jahres nachholen. +++ Medication befindet siche derzeit im Studio, um Material für eine kommende 5-Track-EP abzumischen. Die Band besteht aus dem ehemaligen Machine Head/Soulfly-Gitarristen Logan Mader, dem ehemaligen Ugly Kid Joe-Sänger Whitfield Crane und dem ehemaligen Soulfly-Schlagzeuger Roy Mayorga. Die Band wird die EP voraussichtlich über ihr eigenes Label veröffentlichen und auf ihrer für Oktober/November angekündigten Europa-Tour verkaufen.

Die VIVA Medien AG suchte bereits seit Anfang des Jahres einen Kooperationspartner. Das Joint Venture mit AOL Time Warner (die Firma hält 49% der Anteile des neu zu gründenden Unternehmens, 51% bleiben bei der VIVA Medien AG) soll vor allem die Frequenz von `VIVA Zwei` und den Internetauftritt `viva.tv` besser positionieren. Ab Januar werde man mit einem neuen Namen und neuen Programminhalten starten, hieß es in einer kurzen Pressemitteilung. `VIVA Zwei` wie wir es kennen wird dann, wie schon mehrfach angekündigt, endgültig in das `VIVA`-Abendprogramm wandern. Was ab Januar auf dem bisherigen Sendeplatz von `VIVA Zwei` laufen wird, steht noch nicht fest.

“The brutal attacks/bombings this week in New York, and Washington D.C., along with threats of attacks there and elsewhere in the country have changed our times forever. While the mass media concentrates on the details of the destruction, and the blanketed words of politicians, I will attempt to understand and explain the events from the fence. BOMBING AND BEING BOMBED ARE THE SAME THINGS ON DIFFERENT SIDES OF THE FENCE.

Terror is not a spontaneous human action without credence. People just don`t hijack planes and commit harikari (suicide) without any weight of thought to the action. No one in the media seems to ask WHY DID THESE PEOPLE DO THIS HORRIFIC ACT OF VIOLENCE AND DESTRUCTION? To be able to understand the answer to this, we must first look at our U.S. Mideast Policy. During most of the 20th century, U.S. businesses have worked on attaining oil rights and concessions from countries in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. After WWI, secret back door deals by our State Dept. yielded oil rights from then defeated Turkey to fields in what is now Iraq and Saudi Arabia, in return for looking the other way at a crime against humanity, the Genocide of the Armenians by the Turks. Oil profits have been the motivating factors behind many attempts at counterinsurgency of democratic regimes by the CIA and the U.S in the Middle East (such as Iran in the 1950s, where the Shah replaced the Prime Minister who refused to give up oil rights to the U.S., and since the people couldn`t deal with the Shah, an extremist government headed by the Ayatollah Khomeini ultimately prevailed). During the Iran-Iraq war, America supplied both sides with weapons and advice. These are not the actions of a rich superpower wanting peace. Let`s not forget that Saddam Hussein, before being America`s vision of the Anti-Christ, was a close ally of the U.S., and the CIA. So what was the firm belief system of consecutive American administrations that caused all this to occur? PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST WILL LEAD TO HIGHER OIL AND GASOLINE PRICES. Let`s not also forget the power of the Arms industry, disguised as defense, that still sells billions of dollars of weapons to the area. Therefore it has not been in the short-term economic interest of the U.S. to foster Peace in the Middle East. Using the above reasoning, the U.S. has encouraged extremist governments, toppled democracies, as in the case of Iran to replace it with a monarchy, rigged elections, and many more unspeakable political crimes for U.S. businesses abroad. Let`s not also forget the Red Scare. During the war between the then Soviet Union and Afghanistan, the U.S. armed and supported the Taliban, a fundamentalist Muslim organization, and allowed them to export opium and heroin out of their country to pay for those weapons. Therefore the Taliban rose to power and control with the help of the U.S.A. Today, the bombing of Iraq still continues, no longer covered by the media, the economic embargo still remains, killing millions of children, and recently, while the world and the U.N. General Assembly have cried out to bring in peacekeeping forces into Israel and Palestine, to end the escalated war and recent assassinations, the U.S. has vetoed the rest of the Security Council and has halted the possibility of peace, there, in the most volatile place in the world. People in Serbia, Lebanon, Iraq, Sudan, and Afghanistan to name a few have seen bombs fall, not always at military targets and kill innocent civilians, as the scene in New York city yesterday. The wars waged by our government in our names has landed smack in the middle of our living room. The half hour of destruction closed down all world financial markets, struck the central headquarters of our military, and had our leaders running into bunkers, and our citizens into fear and frenzy. What scares me more than what has occurred is what our reactions to the occurrences may cause. President Bush belongs to a long generation of Republican Presidents who love war economies. The media has only concentrated on the bombings, if you will, and what type of retaliations are looming for the perpetrators. What everyone fails to realize is that the bombings are a reaction to existing injustices around the world, generally unseen to most Americans. To react to a reaction would be to further sponsor the reaction.

In other words, my belief is that the terror will multiply if concrete steps are not taken to sponsor peace in the middle east, NOW. This does not mean that we should not find the guilty party(s), Bin Laden, or whoever they may be, and not try them. Put simply, as long as a major injustice remains, violence precipitates to the surface of life. Native American folklore, the Bible, Nostradamus, and many other major religious beliefs point to this era with the visuals of yesterday`s disasters, and conditions of ecological disasters we experience daily in our lives today. War, rumors of war, famine, long burning fires, etc., are at our doorstep. We can prevail over this possible vision with the power of the human spirit, understanding, compassion, and peace. IT`S TIME TO PUT OUR NEEDS FOR SECURITY AND SURVIVAL, ACHIEVED ONLY THROUGH PEACE, ABOVE AND BEYOND PROFITS, ESPECIALLY IN THESE TIMES. SOLUTION: The U.S. should stop sidestepping the U.N. Security Council, and allow U.N. Peacekeeping troops and missions to the Middle East. Stop the violence first. Stop the bombing and patrol of Iraq. With today`s gains in the use of alternative fuels, develop them to full usage with autos and other utilities, to make the country less dependant on an already depleting natural reserve, oil.

By initiating peace, we would have already shaken the foundations of support for Bin Laden, and/or all those that sponsor activities like those we saw yesterday, and break the stronghold of extremists on the world of Islam. On the other hand, if we carry out bombings on Afghanistan or elsewhere to appease public demand, and very likely kill innocent civilians along the way, we`d be creating many more martyrs going to their deaths in retaliation against the retaliation. As shown from yesterday`s events, you cannot stop a person who`s ready to die.”

Inzwischen sind drei Tonträger-Veröffentlichungen auf unbestimmte Zeit verschoben worden: Die anstehende Live-CD von Dream Theater wird aufgrund des “nicht tragbaren Covers” vorerst nicht veröffentlicht. Aus den selben Gründen wird “Party Music” des Rap-Projekts The Coup vom Markt genommen. Das Cover zeigt zwei Hochhaustürme, die nach einer Explosion brennen. Die Veröffentlichung eines Hörspiels mit dem Titel “Crashing Aeroplanes” wird ebenfalls verschoben. “Wie der Titel erahnen lässt, handelt das Hörspiel von der Darstellung des Menschlichen in Extremsituationen. Wenngleich dieses Werk von tiefstem Respekt vor seinem Thema geprägt war, so gibt es offensichtlich doch Momente, in denen die Kunst dem realen Schrecken der Welt nicht mehr standhalten kann”, so die beiden Köpfe hinter dem Werk, Andreas Ammer und FM Einheit. Auch wenn kein Muiskkonzern seinen Sitz in einem der Türme des World Trade Centers hatte, haben die US-Konzerne ihre Büros vorerst geschlossen. Vivendi Universal, Sony Music, Warner Music und EMI haben inzwischen bekannt gegeben, Geldbeträge in noch nicht genannter Höhe zu Verfügung zu stellen. Welchen Hilfseinrichtungen die Spenden im Einzelnen zugute kommen sollen, werden die Unternehmen nach internen Beratungen und Gesprächen mit offiziellen Stellen entscheiden. Bereits zuvor hatte die Bertelsmann AG zugesichert, die Hinterbliebenen der Opfer mit insgesamt zwei Millionen Dollar zu unterstützen. Der Konzern werde, so der Vorstands-Chef Thomas Middelhoff, je eine Million den entsprechenden Hilfsfonds von Polizei und Feuerwehr zukommen lassen. “Unsere Antwort auf den Terror kann nur Zivilcourage und Solidarität sein. Wir werden alles dafür tun, zu einer friedlichen Welt zurückzukehren”, so Middelhoff. Auch amazon.com sammelt Spenden für das amerikanische Rote Kreuz. Statt aktueller Angebote aus dem Verkaufs-Sortiment veröffentlicht der Shop einen Spendenaufruf. Bisher habe man nach eigenen Angaben 1,9 Millionen Dollar sammeln können. Die Bands, die ihre Auftritte stattfinden lassen wollen, werden ebenfalls einen nicht näher definierten Anteil der Einnahmen spenden. Zu diesen Gruppen zählen die auch Backstreet Boys und Lynyrd Skynyrd. Die Reaktionen von Bekannten und Musikern, die in New York ansässig sind, drücken den Schock in klaren Worten aus. Gunter Hampel (Jazzkantine) schrieb seine ersten Eindrücke auf die offizielle Seite: “Ich habe die beiden Tuerme des Wahrzeichens amerikanischer Power – World Trade Center -, in Schutt und Asche zerbersten sehen und fühlen. Die Welle von Staub und Druck und das Geschrei der Menschen in den Strassen, machten einen glauben, die Totenschreie der tausenden von Menschen zu hören und zu spüren, die in diesem Moment in den Tod gehen.”

Auch Moby gab erneut preis, was in ihm vorgeht: “Everyone in New York is trying to cope, but none of us really know how. We pretend it`s not real, but it is, and you can`t avoid it for too long. None of us know who has died. We all know people who worked in those buildings or who lived nearby. So we wait. And cry. And drink. And get numb. And get angry. And get sad. The toughest city in the world, but we have no idea how to deal with this. I`m not asking for extra sympathy for people who live in or near Manhattan, but just be understanding and patient with us. Please.”
